Furry Friday: Foster Kittens

I think it's obvious that I am a animal lover. Kittens are one of my weaknesses. I would probably have 4 cats if I could but honestly, that's probably too many. To satisfy my craving and save lives at the same time I often foster kittens for my local no-kill animal shelter. Most of these kittens have ringworm which is treatable but most shelters will put them down. A spare bedroom in my house allows me to do this without infecting my animals. I've been doing it about 3 years and it is one of the most rewarding things I've done. If you are able to foster any kind of pet I highly encourage it, if not consider donating food, litter, toys, blankets, or money to your local shelter.

Now I would like to present to you easily the two cutest kittens I was fortunate enough to foster:

Let's all give a collective, "AWWWWWW!"
The left is the brother, Jordan and the right is the sister, Daphne. I would have kept them if my boyfriend would have let me but he didn't. Since I live in his house I had to consent but I think I put up a good fight.

Review: Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Moisturizer

I am a big believer in natural skin. I want to make sure that I don't expose myself to harmful chemicals that could potentially cause cancer yet still use products that benefit my skin. Call me paranoid but I think it makes a difference. I might do a post on how I try to lead a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle if people are interested. Getting back to topic, Avalon Organics is marketed as a natural brand and this particular moisturizer is 70% organic. I found this at my local Whole Foods but I believe they sell it in drugstores as well. It's relatively expensive at around $22 for 2oz. It claims that the antioxidants reinforce elasticity, firms appearance and provides photo-aging defense. It doesn't have parabens, harsh preservatives, synthetic fragrances and is vegetarian.

This all sounds good on paper but does it work? I have been using it for a month and I have to say I don't much care for this. It smells nice if you like citrus cents but I have normal to dry skin and it doesn't adequately moisturize my face. Keep in mind that I live in a very dry, desert climate so it may work better for those that have to deal with humidity. I also didn't notice any other positive effects that would warrant paying over $20 for.

I would also like to address the fact that this says it is oil free, yet, if you look at the ingredients, it's filled with essential OILS. Those with oily skin beware! I've been researching a lot on antioxidants in skin care. I think it is a good idea to have antioxidants in your night time skin care routine but in order for them to be effective they need to be packaged where they aren't exposed to light or a lot of air. This is a jar container which means, hello air, goodbye beneficial antioxidants.

The Good: It doesn't contain harsh chemicals and it's not overly pricey.

The Bad: Too many fragrances which can be bad especially for sensitive skin, doesn't moisturize enough for dry skin, contains oils which can be a problem for oily skin. Basically, if you have normal skin you may like this. Also, antioxidants can't work properly in the jar container.

The Verdict: While I have seen and read reviews that rave about this moisturizer, I would say skip it. There are other moisturizers that will be better suited for your specific skin type than this one.

I am on the hunt for my perfect night time moisturizer and when I find it I will be certain to let you know.

Have you tried this? I would love to know if you have and what you thought of it. I might be the only one out there that wasn't blown away by this!

Vapour Organic Solar Translucent Bronzer

Summer is officially upon us and I thought the perfect review for today would be a product that gives you a bronze glow.

Vapour Organic is a natural and organic makeup line. They make their products using wind power and the packaging is all recyclable. The environment is something that I don't take for granted so when I find a makeup brand that feels the same way it's a win, win. I have bought a few items in the past but I follow them on Facebook and they occasionally have contests to win free products. I was lucky enough to win and they sent me a Solar Translucent Bronzer in the color Simmer.

This bronzer comes in three different shades; mirage for fair skin, simmer for medium skin, and spicy for dark skin. The color is very pigmented but blends out flawlessly.

To use, I find it easiest to warm it up a bit on my hand and then apply the bronzing stick directly on my face. Then just blend with your fingers; no brush required! It's very creamy so it won't smear your foundation but you do want to be careful that you don't overdo it. A little goes a long way and you can always layer. I don't use a blush whenever I use this product because I feel like that would be a slight overkill. The bronze color is pretty enough on it's own.

So what is the overall opinion?

The Good: Can I just say, I'm in love! There are so many good things to say. It's creamy, pigmented, natural, organic, recyclable..the list goes on and on. This is definitely going to be a summer must have.

The Bad: If you have oily skin this might be a slight problem since it's a cream but nothing a little powder or powder bronzer can't fix. It is also quite expensive at $34 for .35oz.

The Verdict: Go and buy this immediately if you are in the market for a cream bronzer and also if you have the funds for it. I am sure that you will love it as much as I do.

I also encourage you to check out their other products as I have yet to try something that I haven't liked.

Have you tried any of their products? If so what did you think and what do you recommend?

I promise I blended it in!

OOTD: Striped Maxi Dress

Today's outfit of the day (OOTD) is one that I am loving for summer because it's light and has a beachy/nautical feel to it.

The dress is from Nordstrom BP section and I love that it has pockets. It retails for $52 and you can find it here

I paired it with gladiator style shoes from Aldo and a small shoulder bag from forever 21.

For jewelry I kept it simple. Bracelet is from Jewelmint which I did a blog post about and earrings are from Nordstrom BP.

Sunglasses complete the look. Mine are aviator style from Ann Taylor Loft.

Hope you enjoyed and sorry for my angry face at the end!

My First Jewelmint Experience

Jewelmint has taken over the blogging and YouTube world and to be honest I did not understand the hype. For those that don't know, Jewelmint is a monthly subscription service where you pay $30 a month and you get to pick a piece of jewelry. You do have the option to skip and will not be charged if you don't like anything.  I love jewelry but paying $30 for one piece of jewelry seemed ridiculous especially because I never really liked any of the pieces that were in my "showroom."  I kept checking every now and then just to see what they had and finally I saw something that I liked.

Enter, the Natural Wonder Bracelets:

I absolutely love the leaf bracelet and you can tell it's really good quality. It's so my style and it is unlike anything I currently own. I can't wait to wear this out. Even Poofy Head (my cat) enjoyed it!

Now to be honest I would not pay $30 for this bracelet. Sure, I liked the leaf bracelet, but the other two are cheap stretchy bands that I feel you can find at Forever 21 for $2. The good news is I did not pay $30. I looked up coupon codes and found a 60% off that brought the price down to $12. Now, I would pay that for this bracelet. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get another coupon since I believe they are only for first time purchases but I'll continue to look at their selection and I'm sure I'll be buying something in the future.

Adorable packaging

Great presentation
